As for me and my house

I’m not sure how many times I’ve seen or read the verse Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” and thought to myself, “Wow, what a great verse to live by” but was never really convicted by it.  As I’ve been studying the book of Joshua since the movie “Courageous” came out, I’ve really looked at that verse a new way.  You see, Joshua was around 110 years old at the time that he was making his “farewell” speech, but he was still being strong and courageous as he ever was.  He told the followers, you can either worship the gods and the idols that your forefathers worshipped and be condemned by God, or you can serve the Lord.  Whatever you choose, choose it today.  Stand up and be a man, be a leader in your house.  But as for me and me house, We will be serving the Lord.  He said those words, and when he said them, that’s when you knew he was the spiritual leader of his home period.

Now, fast forward to 2011.

I’ve really been convicted by the movie, but I know that if I don’t start being the spiritual leader, it’s only a movie, whoopty do.  So, I’ve bought the studies, I’ve lead the group’s, I’m reading the Resolution for Men, and I bought the soundtrack……

Now if you haven’t heard this song “As for me and my House” by John Waller, you need to.  This guy hit it in the head, and the video is even better.

I’m done, building my own kingdom – What a way to start the song…. I’m not the king of this universe, why am I trying to keep up with the Joneses?

No more seeking worthless idols- Who cares about what doesn’t matter in this world?  Who cares about who won the football game when Jesus comes?  The only thing that really matters is who you are serving.

I’m done with powerless religion- I’ve never been addicted to drugs or alcohol, but I have had my own addictions – I’ve been addicted to sports, to the internet, to all of the worthless things in this world that don’t matter.  I’m done.

No more living in deception- no more lies, stop lying to yourself, stop lying to others, fall on your knees and repent before The Great One.

We will not give our hearts to another, We belong to the Lord.  This song is so powerful.  I encourage you to not only listen to the song, but also go back and read the entire Chapter of Joshua 24. All I know, is that me and my house no longer build our own kingdom, we don’t seek worthless idols, we are done with powerless religions, we still love our sports (especially my dawgs and cowboys), but we will not be addicted to them, we will root for them but that’s about it.  (I’ve realized that God doesn’t like college football anyway, if he did, he wouldn’t put two satanic coaches in the National Championship).  No more living in lies and deception.  As for the Danny Brooks house, We Will Serve the Lord.
