Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
My ambition has always been to preach the Good News where the name of Christ has never been heard, rather than where a church has already been started by someone else. Romans 15:20.
This is by far the hardest blog to write, one that is not an account of what happened on my mission trip to Africa, just my thoughts on where the church should stand on missions.
I’m no pastor, I’m no deacon, when it comes to where I stand in the church, I’m just a believer, a believer that we should use Matthew 28:19-20 and go and make disciples. To me, that was a command from Jesus, a command to go out and make disciples. Yes, we should make disciples in America, but most importantly, we should go, we should go to other Ethnic groups, the bible calls them “Nations” that have never heard the word Jesus. Yes, its crazy to think, over half of this world has never heard His name, yet we are over here in our cozy churches singing his praise on Sunday mornings, then Monday through Saturday living as if we’ve never heard His name. We need more Pastors that preach on missions, and preach the importance of discipleship.
While we were in country, we got the chance to speak with many young men (who just happen to be learning English) who had no hopes, no dreams, and no aspirations. Their country is so corrupt, they do see things on TV, they see America, they see other parts of the World, and then they walk outside and see where they live, they know, this has been their country since the beginning of time and it really hasn’t changed much. The most asked question we received from them was “What will it take to make this country like America?” And to be honest, my worldly thought was a bulldozer, but then I started thinking, do they really want to be like America? Yes, we have nice places, we have lots big buildings, we have movies, we have nice cars, and we have all of the worldly idols that are talked about in the Old Testament to stay away from. I’m the same way, I have two nice cars, I have a house, and I have a big screen TV. The only thing, I could really think for them to do is pray, pray to a real God, the one that sent his son to live a perfect life in this Worldly Earth, to teach, to be betrayed, to be crucified on a wooden cross, and to be raised on the 3rd day.
Back to my original thought of this blog, Christians, we need prayer, we need prayer for people groups that have never heard of Jesus, we need prayer for people that live day to day, not pay check to pay check but day to day. We need people to go and be there for them, show them Jesus, teach them Jesus. We need people to help support the missionaries that are there with prayer and we need people that are willing to go to be supported financially so that they can really get right with God before they leave instead of worrying about if they are going to raise enough money to go, but more importantly, we need you to pray… Pray for the right people to be called to missions, whether its long term or a short term mission trip, pray for the ones that are called as they are preparing, pray for them as they leave that God will do amazing things, pray for them the entire time, make it a daily habit to pray for missions and missionaries, and pray that God is the one that gets all the glory when great things happen.
